Second Phase of the Afrika Campaign...

The maps above and below illustrate the position of forces for this round of the campaign.  Battles may be conducted anywhere and in any size as long as they are between Italian (Axis) and British (Allied) forces using equipment and organization from the general period.  Players may use any  mutually agreed rules and miniatures to conduct a game that may be reported as port of this campaign.

On the map below note the two Allied Infantry Divisions and the Armored Division are placed approximately where they started the evening before the attack illustrated above.  It should be noted Axis troops are primarily withdrawing with the exception of the Ariete Division's Motorized Infantry Regiment, which is moving toward the battle area.  It should also be noted that the whole of the Ariete Armored Division has been activated by the Italian High Command.

Pictures from the last game of the First Phase...

The Germans have made their first attacks, pinning the British allied forces  with the Italian Armor and infantry and pushing through the Panzers and Pioneers of the 5th Light Division.  An Australian Battalion was severely mauled by the a coordinated attack of Axis air power and ground forces.  The only thing that saved the Australians was the arrival  of a few Gladiators to mix it up with the JU87's and ME109's.

The flight stands were removed from this picture in photo shop.

The Australian Battalion above sets up a very hasty defense against the advancing Panzers of the 5th Light.  Note the circling aircraft in the upper left of the picture (stands removed in photo shop).  The off board 25# guns were not very accurate with the longer delay in the optional rules, which under the circumstances makes sense.  They were responsible for disrupting a Pz IVs of the 3rd (actually the 4th as the 3rd Company was eliminated by the reorganization of the 5th Light when it went to Africa) Company as well as a Pz III of the 1st Company in this view.  It is hard to see the terrain features with the overall tan background but you can make out the small hills and beginning of the escarpment in the left center of the picture below.
