Paper Model Building Construction in 1/285-1/300 scale

Sample of building under construction with top long wall brace installed, and bottom long wall brace about to be glued into position.  Note short wall bracing.  Also note slight overlap of card stock to allow better finish when assembled.

A good straight edge is a must for construction of small buildings, as is a sharp #11 X-acto blade.  Note the two different styles of short wall construction.  The style to the right makes it easier to allow the long wall end to fit into the short wall during final assembly of the two halves of the building.  Stacking is easier, but fitting the pieces as in the left hand example looks better...?

Always do a test fit to make sure both halves go together easily before applying glue.  I use Aleene's Original Tacky Glue, but a product like 527 Glue will also work.

After applying glue to the halves and allowing them to dry for 10 of 15 minutes it is recommended you make a roof brace to insure the end walls are sturdy and the card stock roof is strong enough for handling.

The building pictured can be seen in the photo of the Shugart Gordon compound above.  It is the building just to the left of the vertical street at the top of the picture.

Pictured below is a 1/285-1/300 scale hangar typical of many military installations around the world.  Note the scratch built C-7 Caribou.  The Hangar was constructed using the same basic methods as the building above with one exception.  The roof was constructed entirely of paper, including the supporting truss complex not seen in the pictures.  Also note the building has an interior typical of this type of hangar.
